Annual Autism Workshop: Teaching Social Skills to Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

Please join us at the Center for the Promoting Research to Practice's Second Annual Autism Workshop on April 20, 2018 from 8am-12pm.  This year's presenter is Dr. Richard Allen, Director of Clinical Services for Devereux Pennsylvania’s Community Services Division.

This workshop is open to the public. 

Dr. Richard Allen is the Director of Clinical Services for Devereux Pennsylvania’s Community Services Division, where he oversees the clinical services for home, school and community based programs, serving both children and adults on the autism spectrum, as well as other developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns. During this presentation, Dr. Allen will discuss skill deficits in social communication and social interaction, which are typically related to the difficulties experienced by individuals on the autism spectrum. Dr. Allen will review current evidence-based practices for social skills assessment and intervention for individuals on the autism spectrum. He also will offer guidelines for effective programming in home, school, and community settings. Selected assessment and intervention resources for use across the lifespan will also be discussed.

Dr. Allen's presentation will cover elementary school age children through transition (high school into adulthood).

Important logistical information for attendees:

The Center for Promoting Research to Practice's Annual Autism Workshop will be held this Friday, April 20, 2018 at Lehigh University in Iacocca Hall in the Wood Dining Room from 8:00 am - 12:00 am.  

Directions: If you have a GPS unit (in your car or on your phone, please use this address: 111 Research Drive, Bethlehem, PA 18015).

Parking: Parking will be free for workshop participants. Once you pull up to the old Bethlehem Steel Guard Shack (by the stop sign) you will be greeted by our graduate students. They will be handing out visitor passes that must be displayed on your rearview mirror. They are scratch off to indicate the day, month and year - please be sure to scratch off the correct date and display. Please follow the signs to the visitor lot. There are also parking spots located in front of Iacocca Hall if you prefer to park closer but will need to pay for those spots on your own ($1.00/hour - quarters, nickels, dimes accepted). NOTE: If you are an employee or student who has a parking tag you will not need a parking pass.

Iacocca Hall: The address of Iacocca Hall is 111 Research Drive and we will be in the Wood Dining Hall, second floor of the A wing (once inside main entrance, follow directionals).

Registration: Registration will be the lobby of the Wood Dining Hall from 7:30am-8:00am. Please check-in and sign-in if you are seeking continuing education credits.

Continuing education credits:

BCBA credits: We are offering 5 BCBA credits. There will be a sign-in and sign-out sheet located at the registration table. Please be sure to provide your BCBA certificate number. You will need to fill out an evaluation form at the end of the workshop.

ACT 48 credits: We are also offering 5 ACT48 credits. Again, you will need to sign-in and sign-out at the registration table. For ACT48 credits you will need to fill out an evaluation form at the end of the workshop and then once you have implemented what you've learned at the workshop you will also fill out another form. Instructions will be provided at the registration table. 

We will go over these items at the start of the workshop as well.

Catering: We will offer Sliced Seasonal Fresh Fruit and Berries, Freshly Baked Selection of Croissants, Muffins, and Breakfast Breads Assortment of Fresh Bagels, Butter, Cream Cheese, and Assorted Preserves, Chilled Orange Juice, Apple Juice and Cranberry Juice, and Freshly Brewed Regular & Decaffeinated Coffee and Assorted Herbal Teas.
