Education Colloquium: Dr. Habibah Ashari

  Dr. Habibah Ashari will present a talk titled "The Tun Abdul Razak Chair: Initiating Contact, Sustaining Collaboration." Dr. Habibah Ashari was  selected as the 14th Tun Abdul Razak Chair and began her appointment at Ohio University in July 2011. Dr. Habibah is Director of the International Education College (INTEC) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and is a Professor of Education with a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University. She is the first Tun Abdul Razak Chair from UiTM and only the second woman to be granted this distinction. The Center for International Studies and the Southeast Asian Studies welcomed Dr. Habibah and her family to Athens in July 2011. The Tun Razak professor, who is a senior Malaysian scholar selected by the Ministry of Education in consultation with the Tun Razak Council and Ohio, has a two-year residency at Ohio. The Tun Razak Professor conducts seminars for undergraduate and graduate students in his or her respective areas of expertise and organizes an inter national conference on Southeast Asia in the second year. Tun Abdul Razak was Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1970 to 1976. A chair in his honor was established at Ohio University's Center for Southeast Asia Studies in 1980. The Razak Chair was endowed jointly by a grant from the Malaysian government and matching funds from American firms operating in Malaysia.
