During a time of political unrest in his homeland of Venezuela, a young Germán Cadenas accompanied his mother and brother to Arizona, where his father was working to send money back home to support the family. “We came just to be with my father for Christmas,” he says. “We wanted to see him and be together.”

The topic focused on cultural competency in the mental health profession as related to Black Lives Matter. Dr. Cadenas is an assistant professor with the Lehigh Counseling Psychology program.
Dr. Germán Cadenas Named Student Club/ Organization Advisor of the Year Award
Dr. Germán Cadenas was recognized for his work with Lehigh Immigration Coalition. Dr. Cadenas was selected to receive the Student Club/ Organization Advisor of the Year Award. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by faculty or staff advisors to student organizations. It is given annually to honor those in the university community who have significantly enhanced the quality of student life through their involvement and leadership while at Lehigh.
