Figures recently released by th U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics. 

  • The United States will spend, on average, $10,844 for ever student this academic school ear 
  • Children in the western United States attend part-time kindergarten 57 percent of the time. A majority of students elsewhere attend full-time kindergarten 
  • American public school systems will average a student/teacher ratio of 15.2 
  • In 2007, 56 percent of public school students were white; Hispanics, the fastest growing demographic in the United States, made up 21 percent of public school students 
  • The percentage of high school dropouts among 16-through 24-year-olds declined from 11.8 percent in 1998 to 8.0 in 2008
