EDUC 394: Special Topics in Education: Adult Social Emotional Learning

Description: For schools that are implementing SEL initiatives, investing in your own learning and development first is a key to success. The findings from the SEL research field support that adult learning is key--from district leaders to classroom teachers. In this course, participants will explore how Adult SEL equips us to make deep and long term changes toward a more inclusive and just world for adults and children.

EDUC 394: Special Topics in Education: Immigration Psychology | Cross-listed as CPSY466

Description: This course is an introduction to the psychological experiences of immigrants in the U.S., with a major focus on immigration from Latin America. Using a critical lens, students in this course analyze the way that current and historical conditions shape immigrants' mental health and overall wellbeing. This course also draws from research and theory to review strategies for working with immigrants, supporting their resilience and success in educational, work, health, mental health, and community settings.

TLT 462: Special Topics in Development of Instructional Resources and Technologies for Learning: Data Visualization

Description: We know the use of technology in education will continue to increase. This course extrapolates current research to envision the innovations we can expect in a planning horizon of 2 to 5 years. We will study schools and systems that use emerging technologies today that could be widely adopted tomorrow. The course focuses equally on technology and pedagogy.

EdL 470: Special Topics in Educational Leadership: Current Challenges in Higher Education

Description: In this synchronous online course, students will be introduced to key issues confronting American higher education. We will first focus on macro issues that are causing challenges at universities, focusing on technology, demographics, and globalization. We will explore how institutions might change in response to these forces. With that backdrop, our subsequent discussion will draw from current events taking place on university campuses. Students will be encouraged to develop the capacity to identify the forces creating the challenge, summarize the events taking place and engage as a group to discuss perspectives and how leaders can approach addressing such challenges.

EDUC 407: Grant Writing and Fundraising in Education

Description: This course provides a comprehensive overview of the grant writing process. All aspects of grant preparation and writing will be reviewed, including preparing to write a grant, identifying funding sources, developing a grant idea, preparing a proposal, determining appropriate funding agencies, and evaluating grant quality.

TLT 472: Online Teaching and Learning

Description: Online teaching and learning has expanded rapidly over the past decade, and it has significantly impacted how, when, and where people teach and learn. As online teaching and learning is becoming more prevalent in postsecondary education, instructors should be prepared to teach online with necessary skills and knowledge. This course is designed to provide instructors with a basic introduction to the theory and practice of online teaching and learning and to develop the skills and strategies needed to facilitate courses in an online environment.
