  • Building on Joy and Thriving in Underserved Communities

"'I'm really interested in studying what it means to be a parent of an underserved demographic living in a system that doesn't privilege you, and the impact that has on your ability—not just to parent, but also to find joy and thrive—all these things that go beyond just being okay.”

  • Developing Intervention Strategies that Support Classroom Teachers and Their Students

“Sometimes teachers—even very experienced, seasoned teachers—need some additional support and an extra eye,” Beth Taglioli says. “So, I'm looking at ways to support those teachers to implement interventions.”

Taglioli says that she values the flexibility possible within the Special Education program. “You get access to world class-level faculty and research and, as I said, the Centennial School is an exemplary model among schools in the state,” she continues. “But you also get a program that is small enough to be flexible and work with you, and help you design a course of study that suits your personal and professional interests.”

  • Supporting Parents of Children with Behavioral Challenges

Chen Shi’s research is focused on helping children with emotional behavioral disorder and ADHD, and their families.

Shi is happy she chose Lehigh’s College of Education for her doctoral work. “Lehigh is such a supportive environment—especially my program,” she says. “All the students are my allies—if I have a question, I either knock on a faculty door or I text my cohort,” she says. “It's a tight group that supports each other.”

  • Adam Schmucker Builds Bridges Through Language

Adam Schmucker has always been interested in language and the world that exists outside our individual bubbles.

As part of his doctoral program, Schmucker is conducting research about the influence of school leadership on bilingual education. His multi-site, qualitative case study is taking place at three elementary schools in eastern Pennsylvania, conducting document analysis, semi-structured interviews and observational field observation.
