Academic Programs

Dr. Mauer’s research focuses on two primary strands that examine how effective literacy instruction and teacher preparation can improve outcomes for all elementary students, particularly students with reading and writing difficulties or disabilities and emerging bilingual learners. 

Prior to earning her doctorate, Mauer served as a third and fourth grade elementary teacher in Kansas City. In this role, she received the Horizon Award for Outstanding Educators from the Kansas State Department of Education.
