Finding Joy in Education
Our communities depend on providing our youth, our next generation, with a strong education. We clearly know that students thrive academically and socially when they are in school and classroom environments with highly qualified educators. Unfortunately, we are seeing many students who may not have the educational experiences that they need to be successful.
In 2025, the field of education faces unprecedented challenges. For instance, the National Center for Education Statistics reports that during the 2024-2025 school year, 74% of public schools in the United States faced difficulty hiring teachers to fill vacant positions. Furthermore, teachers indicate that a common reason why they leave the profession is they feel that teaching is an undervalued profession.
Educators work incredibly hard and often with little prestige or recognition. It is imperative upon us as a community to recognize that educating our youth is absolutely essential. We must create positive environments for educators where they feel appreciated for their hard work and dedication, so talented individuals enter and remain in the profession. Read more.
About the Campaign
The Joy in Education campaign will provide teachers, administrators and school counselors and psychologists with opportunities to come together and find community, support and joy in our work.
“It is important that we remind ourselves and others of the joy that is found in this critically important profession,” said Dr. Brook Sawyer, Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. “Let’s inspire each other and the broader community by sharing what we love about our work as educators, why it matters, and showcasing the accomplishments of amazing colleagues.”
Lehigh’s College of Education is launching a yearlong campaign to recognize and support area educators. The Joy in Education campaign will provide teachers, administrators and school psychologists and counselors with opportunities to come together and find community, support and joy in our work.
