Dissertation Defense: Deborah Cruz

The College of Education has scheduled the final oral examination of Deborah L. Cruz for the degree of Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. The title of Cruz's dissertation is "El jíbaro en búsqueda de su identidad: How Puerto Rican Teachers Self-Identify in a Suburban School District." This study examines bilingual Puerto Rican educators within the diaspora context, exploring the complexities between island-born versus mainland-born educators and the impact and implications on how they self-identify. As demographics shift, significant disparities persist in the United States between teachers' and students' racial and ethnic backgrounds.
