Promoting Equity for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities
This webinar will feature a discussion with Sara Kangas on her new book, “Promoting Equity for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities” (Teachers College Press, 2025). Kangas will describe the predictable, repeated barriers—or patterned inequities—that multilingual learners with disabilities face in their education. Moderated by Dr. Hayley Weddle, the conversation will offer a framework for how teachers, education leaders, and policymakers can act as agents of change to dismantle these barriers and safeguard students’ rights. The webinar will include a time for questions and discussion with attendees. About the presenters: Dr. Sara E.N. Kangas is an associate professor in the College of Education at Lehigh University. Her research explores the everyday beliefs, conditions, and policies in K–12 education that shape the learning opportunities and educational rights of multilingual learners with disabilities. Dr. Hayley Weddle is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research addresses how leaders across K–12 and higher education implement policies in ways that enable or constrain equity.
