For Lauren Tillstrom Biegley, the decision to pursue a doctoral degree was rooted in a desire to bridge the gap between research-based theory and the realities of K-12 schools. After years spent in elementary classrooms, she was looking for more than academics; she wanted a partner in progress.

"I chose Lehigh's College of Education because I wanted a program that valued both rigorous research and real classroom practice. I needed a program that wouldn't lose sight of what actually happens in schools. The Teaching, Learning, and Technology program was the perfect fit."

The Student Experience

Transitioning from teaching to research is a major shift, but Lauren found that the environment at Lehigh provided the framework she needed to thrive. She highlights the unique culture of mentorship that defines the College of Education.

"I appreciate that the faculty here are genuinely invested in mentoring students," Lauren says. "Lehigh struck the right balance between pushing me intellectually and supporting me practically, and that's exactly what I needed."

Life in the Lehigh Valley

In addition to being immersed in coursework and research, Lauren is a full-time is a mom with an active family. She finds that the Lehigh Valley offers a perfect backdrop for raising children.

"There are so many fun family things to do in the Lehigh Valley!" Lauren notes, proving that for a doctoral student, the right location is just as important as the right curriculum.
