2025 Summer Institute

COE Summer Institute Students Gather in Greece

Over forty students, faculty and staff from the College of Education (COE)'s Global Programs are gathered in Athens, Greece for the start of the 2025 Summer Institute. Each year this experience offers students working in education from across the globe an opportunity to engage with professors and fellow students in an in-person, intensive learning environment.

Kristi Morin

Morin Leaving Academia to Pursue Entrepreneurship

Jun 27, 2025

Kristi Morin is stepping down from her position as an associate professor in the Special Education program to pursue opportunities that support individuals preparing for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) exam.

During her tenure at Lehigh, Morin was awarded a highly competitive early career grant from Institute of Education Sciences, United States Department of Education, in which she developed a mentoring program to reduce attrition among early career teachers working with autistic children. In addition, she led a state-funded grant to address the extreme shortage in special education teachers throughout Pennsylvania. This included developing curriculum for an accelerated program to fully certify multiple cohorts of prospective special education teachers.

Dr. Patricia Manz

Manz Receives Grant for Community-Based Parenting Program

Jun 23, 2025

Patti Manz recently received a grant from the PNC Foundation to support the "Little Talks in the Lehigh Valley" project. The grant will enable her to offer Little Talks, a parent-mediated home-based intervention to bolster infant/toddler communication and language development, to families experiencing economic hardship through community centers in the Lehigh Valley.

Political Leanings in Public Schools

A Look at Perceptions of Political Leanings In Public Schools

Jun 18, 2025

A new study by J. Cameron Anglum and Anita Manion looks at the perceptions of students and parents regarding the political leanings of public schools. Published by the Brookings Institution, their research finds that adults' perceptions of public school bias vary by party affiliation, while most high school students say that public schools are politically neutral or balanced.

Juan Zheng

Zheng Receives NSF Grant to Support AI Research in Education

Jun 17, 2025

Juan Zheng has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to support her project titled, "Meta-Partner: Hybrid Intelligence for Self-Regulated Learning." This project will develop Meta-Partner, an AI system that helps students set goals, adjust strategies, monitor progress, and reflect on their learning while building AI literacy and self-regulation skills, over the next two years.

Considering the Role of Language in Mental Health Counseling

Jun 16, 2025

A new study published in the International Journal of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) explores how language impacts CBT training and implementation. The researchers point out, “With a rapidly growing Latine population in the U.S. (Dietrich & Hernandez, 2022), there is an increased need to understand the role of language in evidence-based practice training and implementation.”
