Gamification Engages Students in Math Learning
Jan. 21, 2026
Zilong Pan, an assistant professor in the COE's Teaching, Learning, and Technology program, has spent his academic career researching emerging educational technologies and innovative methodological approaches in educational practices and studies in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) disciplines.
Pan, along with COE doctoral student Jiayan Zhu, and Jennifer Kling, a retired computer science teacher and district partnerships manager at Suntex International, Inc., recently published a featured article in Phi Delta Kappan outlining the benefits of gamification in math learning. The authors outline how incorporating a math-based game can improve learning outcomes for elementary students.
The Power of Gamification can be read in its entirety on the Kappan website at https://bit.ly/4qyZnNQ.
