Brooke Wilkins and Cameron Anglum

Educational Leadership Program Well Represented in Kappan

The COE's Educational Leadership (EDL) program stresses the importance of connecting educational practice and research.  "Recent publications in Kappan by doctoral student Brooke Wilkins and assistant professor Cameron Anglum demonstrate our commitment to that ideal," shared EDL Program Director Craig Hochbein.  "Kappan is one of only a handful of outlets in which educators and researchers communicate their ideas, experience, and evidence. We are honored and proud to have multiple articles published in this publication."

In addition to her graduate studies, Wilkins works as a reading specialist at the Mid Valley Elementary Center. Her publication, "Using diagnostic assessments to improve data use," draws on insights and experiences she has gathered in both of these roles. "Diagnostic data, when used intentionally, can empower teachers in their decision-making processes and improve student outcomes.," Wilkins said.

Anglum’s scholarship is focused on the economics of education policy, education finance, and educator labor markets, principally centered on the study of policy and program effects witnessed by disadvantaged students and the school districts and governments that serve them. "Pay reform and the early teacher pipeline" examines legislative efforts to increase teacher salaries. Co-authors of the publication are Dylan Young, Jennifer Gontram and Gary W. Ritter.
