Refugees & Higher Education in Germany Presentation by Dr. Karin Amos

Wednesday, November 2, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Williams Hall, Room 070

Germany is known for making a very strong commitment for dealing with the so-called "refugee crisis". The challenges associated with this commitment are also affecting higher education. The experience at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, which is not a solitary or unique experience, is an example of the challenges and changes associated with policy. High motivation on the part of the refugees is often associated with small steps resulting from legal and other impediments. This presentation highlights the chances and challenges of refugee university students experienced by the University of Tübingen. The presentation offers a neo-instuitional perspective to present the overall framework in Germany and then addresses the details of the Tübingen case.
