Carole Schachter

Carole Devey Schachter has more than 35 years of teaching experience (kindergarten through graduate school) including teaching in a bilingual (English/Spanish) program and teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages. She recently retired as the Supervisor of English Learners Services in the Bethlehem Area School District, PA and was responsible for nearly 1,000 English Learners.

In addition to being a K-12 teacher and then an administrator, Carole has enjoyed teaching in graduate programs for many years. She is currently an Adjunct Instructor, Graduate Studies, TESOL Program, at Lehigh University and an Adjunct Instructor, Graduate Education Department, TESOL Program at DeSales University. Her passion for working with English Learners grew out of her yearlong experience as a Rotary Exchange student to Argentina and Brazil when she was 15. The challenge of learning other languages led her to providing support for students learning English in the United States. She is fluent in Spanish and has a conversational level of ability in Portuguese.

Technology is another area of interest. She spent several years as a technology integration specialist and especially loves using technology to support English Learners.

Her PA Education certifications include Elementary Education, Reading Specialist, Technology Specialist, ESL Specialist, and Principal Certification. She hold a BS in Elementary Education, an MA in Counseling Psychology from Kutztown University and MEd in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University. She is a longtime member of the international organization, TESOL.
