EHS Department Colloquium Registration Form - Spring 2018

Please join us for the Department of Education and Human Services Colloquium on April 16, 2018.

Dr. Keith Morgen will offer a presentation "Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Use Disorders: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Complexities" based on his 2017 book "Substance Use Disorders and Addictions." Dr. Morgen will provide information (skills-based and conceptual) regarding adolescents and how they present differently from adults. The presentation is counseling skills-based and is informed by science and theory.

We are especially excited to have a Counseling Psychology alum back to offer our 2018 colloquium!

The presentation will be held in the Governor's Suite of Iacocca Hall from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. We will offer lite refreshments from 3:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. and then also hold a private meeting with interested Lehigh students from 3:15-4:15 p.m.

About the speaker:

Dr. Keith Morgen is a tenured Associate Professor and Chair-Elect in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Centenary University (Hackettstown, New Jersey) where he teaches in the undergraduate psychology and graduate counseling programs and is a former recipient of the Centenary Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Morgen’s research on substance use, trauma, and prisoner mental health has been published in major scholarly journals such as Traumatology, Therapeutic Communities, The Gerontologist, The Professional Counselor, Journal of Correctional Healthcare, Journal of Addictions and Offender Counseling, Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly, Applied Research in Quality of Life, Journal of Drug Issues, and the Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education. Dr. Morgen is the author of the text Substance Use Disorders and Addictions (Sage) and a co-author of the upcoming forensic psychology text Aging Behind Prison Walls (Columbia University Press). Dr. Morgen is currently a grant-funded principal research investigator studying the effectiveness of a trauma-informed care program for Holocaust survivors and their caregivers. 

Dr. Morgen is a former President (2013-14) of the addictions and offender counseling division of the American Counseling Association and is the current Clinical/Counseling Psychology Programming Chair for the Eastern Psychological Association.  Dr. Morgen is a Licensed Professional Counselor (New Jersey) and Approved Clinical Supervisor and practices part-time at Discovery Psychotherapy and Wellness Centers (Morristown, New Jersey). Dr. Morgen received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (Lehigh University) with his APPIC/APA Internship at the New Jersey Veterans Affairs Healthcare System where at the VA Medical Center in East Orange, New Jersey he trained in the inpatient/outpatient substance use disorder treatment rotations.  Dr. Morgen is also a former NIH/NIDA funded pre/postdoctoral research fellow in the Behavioral Science Training in Drug Abuse Research Program (formerly at National Development & Research Institutes in New York City; currently housed at New York University).
