Educational Leadership alum, John Spencer, Wins the 2019 Distinguished Principal Lindback Foundation Award

The Lindback Foundation Distinguished Principal Award is given annually to Philadelphia School District school leaders “who have made significant leadership and humanitarian contributions” to their school communities. The award comes with a $20,000 prize for each principal’s school, and the recipients will be honored at a ceremony.

John Spencer is a lifelong Philadelphian who believes that K-12 public education is the critical component of U.S. economic success. A 24-year veteran of the School District, Spencer has worked as a principal, director and science teacher. Spencer, whose first love was science, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Morgan State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University. His research interests includes asynchronous/synchronous distance learning environments, rigor and relevance of instructional programs, and lesson planning. Spencer is currently working toward a doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania.
