Lehigh offers three-part series on "Taking Intellectual Risks"
College of Education Professor and Dean William Gaudelli will be one of the panelists discussing "Interdisciplinary Research and Academic Integration" on Tuesday, February 19, the first of three upcoming panel discussions for Lehigh faculty and staff around the topic of “Taking Intellectual Risks."
The discussion takes place in STEPS 101 and will be moderated by Khanjan Mehta, Vice Provost for Creative Inquiry. Other participants include Dean Georgette Phillips (College of Business and Economics), Dean Steve DeWeerth (College of Engineering), and Associate Dean Diane Hyland (College of Arts and Sciences). This panel will delve into various kinds of intellectual risks, faculty rewards and incentives, creating a culture of risk-taking, and the role of visionary interdisciplinary research in the P2P.
The panel series is intended to provide for conversation, questioning, and clarifying topics related to Lehigh's Path to Prominence initiative. The goal of these interactive panels is for attendees to consider their roles in the Path to Prominence, and to interact with deans, faculty, and administrators to identify opportunities, barriers, and pathways for making their work — and Lehigh University as a whole — even more vibrant and impactful.
Refreshments will be offered beginning at 4 p.m., with the panel commencing at 4:15 p.m. and lasting until approximately 5:30 p.m.
The series continues with the second panel, "The Engaged Classroom," which will be moderated by Dr. George White, Managing Director of Student Access and Success, and will include panelists Dr. Greg Reihman, Prof. Sabrina Jedlicka, Prof. Rebecca Wang, Dr. Sarah Stanlick, and Dr. Mark James, Supervisor of STEM Programs for the Bethlehem School District. This panel will be held on Wednesday, March 20, in Lewis Lab 316, and will talk about different pedagogical models, changing demographics in the classroom, the evolving world of work, outcomes beyond the learning outcomes, and much more.
The final panel, "Public Scholarship and Personal Resilience," will be moderated by Dr. Dominic Packer, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, with Prof. Sirry Alang, Prof. Jeremy Littau, Prof. Floyd Beachum, and Ms. Lori Friedman as panelists. This panel will take place on Tuesday, April 16, in Packard Lab 416, and will delve into the personal and emotional toll of taking intellectual risks, the political and social dimensions of public-facing work, dealing with (social) media, and more.
