The Impact of Immigrant Students’ Critical Consciousness on Higher-Education Outcomes
Germán A. Cadenas studies the link between the development of critical consciousness and Hispanic DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) students’ intent to persist at public universities.
During a time of political unrest in his homeland of Venezuela, a young Germán Cadenas accompanied his mother and brother to Arizona, where his father was working to send money back home to support the family. “We came just to be with my father for Christmas,” he says. “We wanted to see him and be together.”

Colleagues,
I wanted to reach out to share my reflections--solely my own--regarding the outrageous police attack in Minneapolis last week and the subsequent acts of protest that have ensued. I know that words are insufficient in a time of social unrest and yet as a community of scholars, words are what we have. I know that the College leadership will prepare a response as well but I wanted you to hear about this directly from me as well and with a sense of urgency that a joint letter in summer does not allow.
Community Voices Clinic Efforts to Provide Mental Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Lehigh University’s Counseling Psychology Program partnered with the Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) in 2012 to create the Community Voices Clinic (CVC). CVC is a school-based mental health clinic where doctoral students coordinate training and supervise master’s students to provide therapy services to students in the schools and the Lehigh Valley community members.
