Dr. Alexander W. Wiseman is Professor and Director of the Comparative and International Education (CIE) program at Lehigh University's College of Education. He has more than 20 years of professional experience working with government education departments, university-based teacher education programs, community-based professional development for teachers and as a classroom teacher in both the U.S. and East Asia.

He leads strategic planning workshops, informs educational policy development, provides evidence-based training programs, speaks internationally and presents extensively in the areas of international testing, teacher preparation and professional development, strategic planning, system assessment and reform, education policy, change management, equitable educational access for girls and boys, institutional capacity building, school-to-work transition and civic education. Dr. Wiseman conducts internationally comparative educational research using large-scale education datasets on math and science education, information and communication technology (ICT), teacher preparation, professional development and curriculum as well as school principal’s instructional leadership activity, and is the author of many research-to-practice articles and books.

Dr. Wiseman is highly active in academic and scholarly publication, and serves as the founder and Senior Editor of the peer-reviewed journal, FIRE: Forum for International Research in Education, Editor of the Annual Review of Comparative and International Education, and Series Editor of the volume series, International Perspectives on Education and Society. His article, "Slouching towards Decentralization: Consequences of Globalization for Curricular Control in National Education Systems," has the distinction of being one of the most cited articles published by the Comparative Education Review for more than a decade.

Mentoring students and collaborating with international partners is one of Dr. Wiseman's passions. He currently works with several teams of students on international partnership projects including (1) monitoring and evaluation of a youth village for genocide survivors and vulnerable children in Rwanda; (2) women's empowerment and educational development with rural villagers in Java, Indonesia; (3) teacher licensing and national educational evaluation systems with national agencies in Saudi Arabia; and (4) refugee capacity-building with recent immigrants and educators in Southwestern Germany.
